Ingrown nails

Description:
A nail with the edge or the tip of the nail in the nail fold down and give pain is the first stage of an ingrown toenail. It can occur in the nail fold callus forms. They call this stage pseudo-ingrown nail. At the next stage the needle tip penetrates the skin and may include pain and extensive inflammation. Usually the problem occurs on the big toe. The most common causes of ingrown nails:

  • wrong shoes (too narrow or too short)
  • wrong cut (too short and / or round corners)
  • unusual shape of the nail, for example high curve
  • sweaty feet, resulting in more bacteria and softening the foot nails
  • trauma: blow or impact, such as sports activity
  • deformity of the foot, such as a flat foot

It is noteworthy that ingrown nails are relatively common in adolescents. This is probably due to a combination of thin nails (due to rapid growth), and small sizes (often by rapid growth). Note: an incipient fungus nail may look like an ingrown nail and initially lead to the same phenomena.

Treatment:
A pseudo-ingrown nail usually can be well treated by the pediatrician. This is the calluses from the nail fold removed, the flattened side of the nail and the nail depressurized down. If the cause is a convex nail, a nail bar can be made so that the shape is corrected. If the toe is already severely inflamed,  be sure to look for a medical treatment.
